Oakland Tech Flag Football Team Gets Ready for a Second Championship in 2024

As the 2024 flag football season kicks off, Oakland Tech is gearing up for what they hope will be another successful season for the team, following last year’s victory.

Newly appointed captains, Anja Bear and Zoey Boldon are stepping up, ready to lead their team to another championship title. With a strong first year as a new sport to Tech, the team thrived under the guidance of last year’s seniors. Winning the championship has set high standards for this year.

“We had great leaders last year, and we’re trying to fill their shoes,” Anja explains. Their sights are set high with one clear goal: reaching the State tournament.

However, their focus isn’t just on winning—it’s also about creating a good team dynamic, especially in the absence of the leadership of last year’s senior captains.

As a new sport to the school at Oakland Tech, flag football hasn’t received the same fan support as other sports such as boys’ football. The momentum from last season’s win has brought more fans to the stands as they cheer the hard-working players on. With a season full of potential ahead, the team aims to rally even more school spirit.

Leading the team is Coach Alexis Gray-Lawson, who has earned praise from her players for being a strong captain.

“She pushes us while also helping us stay balanced outside of football” Zoey shared. Under her guidance and with hours of dedication from each player, the team is determined to make this season a memorable one.

With their next home game on October 9th, you have an opportunity to support our team and cheer them to victory!
