Spotlight: Varsity Girls Volleyball take on Tennyson High

The Oakland Tech Girls Varsity Volleyball team deserved their victory as they beat Tennyson High three sets to zero on Wednesday, September 18th.

From the start, Oakland Tech came out hungry as they took an early 12-3 lead to start the match. This caused Tennyson to call a timeout, getting the crowd into the game. Chants and cheers of “OT! OT!” could be heard after every point scored as the noise only made the team play better.

Every serve that resulted in an ace only gave Tech the confidence needed to take the first set 25-5. While the second set was closer, Tech won by nine and took a 2-0 set lead. Tech only needed to win one more set to seal the victory!

Could Tech win three sets to nothing?

In the third set, Tech put the cherry on top in a decisive manner, winning 25-6 and finishing the game. The enthusiastic crowd and players were in sync with each other helping pull this amazing win off.

After the game, I was able to catch up with eleventh grade student-athlete Kennedy Rowe and get her thoughts on the game. She highlighted the team’s performance saying everyone “worked together and had fun.” While she did say the team has a “few things to work on,” she felt the team had a good game overall and she is “excited for more of our games to come!”
